This elegantly styled, horned Antelope mask is from the Bobo people of Burkina Faso. Carved from a single block of wood, It is decorated overall with incised geometric designs, the surface decorated with kaolin white clay and the remnants of colored pigments. It is mounted on a contemporary, museum-style black steel stand.
Late 19th Century (c.1885). Condition: Some pigment can be seen on the worn surface. Overall evidence of handling and aged wood.
