Birds of paradise originate from New Guinea. Native people of New Guinea believe that they come from the sacred realm and are responsible for the creation of the human world.

This lovely, vibrant bird of paradise is depicted in enamel on silver. The pendant is marked with "Silver" on the reverse as well as the maker's mark R.B and comes with its original, 16.5 inch long silver chain. The pendant is of English origin and made around 1930-1950. It features a lovely quality enamelwork in vibrant colours of blue, turquoise, red, yellow, orange and green. The enamel is in perfect condition as is the whole pendant and chain. The enamelled part of the pendant without the bale on top measures 18.85 north to south by 15.55 mm side by side. It weighs 2.7 grams together with the chain.
