Of angular arched form, worked in coloured wools and silks in various stitches including chenille work with a fruit filled cornucopia with applied glass 'grapes/berries', framed and glazed, probably Swiss but it could have stemmed from any one of Switzerland's neighbouring lands. The framed is covered in a fabric.
It is indeed difficult to know exactly where this was made, but almost certainly it was worked at the turn of the 18th century. Having been bought in Switzerland, then it is likely to be Swiss, but this type of piece was made all over Europe. However, it has survived in good condition.
Size : 28 cm. ( 11 1/32 ") x 24 cm. ( 9 29/64" ).
Condition : very good - note however that one small white grape has somewhat " popped."
This is without doubt, we believe, an item which will prove itself to be of interest to a keen collector.
A Swiss silk and wool embroidered panel, 1780 -1820.
