HERE’S A FAIRLY LARGE, HEAVY, AND EXCEPTIONAL ORIGINAL NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN GRINDING STONE / MORTAR FOUND NEAR EKALAKA, MONTANA DURING THE 1960S THAT DISPLAYS AN ALMOST PERFECTLY ROUND GRANITE BOULDER SHAPE – POSSIBLY CREATED AND USED BY ONE OF THE AREA TRIBAL NATIONS SUCH AS SIOUX, NORTHERN CHEYENNE, BLACKFEET, OR CROW!

Dimensions: This grinding stone / mortar measures approximately eight and one half inches (8 ½”) in height, nine and one half inches (9 ½”) across the body of the stone at its widest point, five inches (5”) across the top opening of the grinding area, by three and one quarter inches (3 ¼”) deep into the grinding area.

Weight: Approximately fifty (50) pounds.

Provenance: Again, this Native American Indian grinding stone / mortar was found by my father while on a hiking trip near Ekalaka, Montana during the mid 1960s. It has been with our family since then.

Condition: Please see the fifteen (15) photographs attached to this listing for a visual condition report. That said, the condition is quite nice considering the potential age of the grinding stone. There are some scuffs and markings around the exterior as well as some loss around the top rim. Regardless, the grinding stone’s round boulder shape is rather unique and is the overall condition is nothing short of beautiful!
