Antique Art Nouveau necklace by George N. Steere, fancy Egyptian Revival. Elaborately designed, the necklace has so many complex elements you have to look carefully to take it all in. The pendant portion features a faceted topaz glass stone plate red vertically, framed by an Egyptian queen's head and lotus flowers (creation, rebirth), lacy filigree, and three matching glass stones on showy baton-shaped drops. The chain echoes the pedant with eight glass stones, more filigree work, and a variety of symmetrical curlicues and little flowers.
While unmarked, I guarantee this to be Steere's work. Much of his output was unmarked so I have been studying the details for years. (The book never got written.) I have another Steere Egyptian Revival listing with similar dangles.
The necklace is in very fine condition with only slight age commensurate wear to the stones, no chips. The gilt metal looks great.
It measures 16" with a 4" pendant.
Please see my other Steere listings.
