This small hammer was shown as a Machinist’s Ball Peen in an ad in the 1908 Aviator and Aeronautical publication. The well-respected Buffum Tool Co. was apparently in business from about 1906 to 1924. The head of the hammer is cast steel and on one side you can make out parts of Buffum Tool Co. Louisiana. It looks like there might be something on the other side but I can’t seem to make out anything for sure and it could be just nicks in the metal. The head is attached to a nicely shaped wood handle that appears to be original. It weighs just over 9oz.
It measures about 11 3/8” long and the head measures about 3” from the hammer face to the back of the ball end. The face measures about 7/8” in diameter. The hammer is in good, 100-year-old condition with average use wear and no noted damage. The handle has some flecks of paint and areas of dark discoloration.
