This charming hand painted Katzhütte German porcelain table lamp features a young blonde woman in a long dress who is leaning against a pillar while holding a wide brimmed hat in her left hand. The woman has a small red confection in her right hand and smiles down at a Borzoi seated at her feet. Her canine companion gazes up at the woman adoringly in a pose familiar to dog lovers everywhere.
The woman's dress is trimmed in red and features a hand painted white polka dot floral pattern executed in bright shades of red, blue, yellow and green. Her white hat is accented with a red band. She also wears red shoes, a red pendant necklace and red hair ornament at the back of her head. The porcelain portion of the lamp is finished with a series of raised dots painted red which encircle the base.
The lamp has an oval brass base made by the highly regarded Mutual Sunset Lamp Company of New York. The base has a reeded stem at the back that arches over the top of the piece and comes complete with its original custom Roseart cream-colored fabric shade finished with a jacquard floral pattern. The paneled lamp shade terminates in a scalloped edge and is trimmed in cream colored ribbon-like fabric at the top and bottom.
The porcelain body of the lamp is in very good vintage condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. The bottom bears the blue Katzhütte backstamp and country of manufacture "Germany". The brass portion is marked "M.S.L. Co 758" on the underside and has minor wear to the finish related to age which is mentioned for accuracy. The Roseart shade bears its original label reading "CUSTOM TAILORED BY Roseart 5TH AVE. - N.Y.". The shade is clean and free from rips and/or stains. The lamp stands 21.5" tall as measured to the top of its finial and is 7" by 6" at the foot. The piece weighs in at 3lbs 4oz.
