These large antique English cut crystal cologne bottles were made by Charles May and are topped with sterling silver screw caps ornamented with floral repousse decoration. The bottles are composed of clear crystal featuring an unusual pattern that includes 4 wide swirled bands of diamond points, the surfaces of which are bisected with mitred cross-cuts. The sharp diamond-cut bands alternate with 4 smooth raised ribbon-like swirled shapes that have an optical magnification effect. The undersides of the bottles are finished with a series of 32 deeply cut rays that fan out from the center. The sterling silver floral caps exhibit crisp detail and also have round polished cartouches at the top that bear hand-engraved matching monograms executed in period script.

The cologne bottles are in very good condition with no cracks or repairs. As antique items, they show signs of age consisting of hard-to-see chips on the diamond-cut areas and some scratching to the smooth parts of the bottles. The undersides also exhibit some minor shelf wear. The insides are clean with some chipping to the interior neck of one bottle that does not affect its efficacy and is noted in the interest of thoroughness.

The caps screw on and off, preventing evaporation and keeping the contents safely inside. The caps show signs of age consisting of minor dents and scratches that are also mentioned for accuracy. The necks bear slightly rubbed hallmarks for Charles May along with the Birmingham Assay Office anchor mark, date letter for 1892, and the lion passant.

The bottles stand 6.25" as measured to the tops of the caps and are 3" across the bottom. Each bottle holds 1.75 cups/14 ounces of liquid. They have a combined weight of 1lb 15oz when empty.
