this 19th century Victorian bar pin features a hand carved cameo at the center. The prong set octagonal cameo is made from an arched piece of Tiger Eye and depicts a woman in left profile. The woman has long wavy hair ornamented with a ribbon-like accent and is also depicted with a long pendant earring. The earring and hair ornament have been finished with a high polish so they reflect in the light. The central stone is flanked by prong set oval cabochons with distinct lateral stripes. All of the stones exhibit a lovely chatoyant quality with warm golden brown tones - be sure to watch the video to see how the piece reacts in the light.
The cameo bar pin is in very good condition with no repairs. The pinstem and c-clasp are fully functional. As an antique item, the piece shows appropriate signs of age including areas of tarnish/discoloration to the silver tone metal and minor chipping to the edge of the central stone that are mentioned for accuracy. The cameo at the center measures .75" by .5" while the cabochons are .5" by .25". The piece is 1.5" long not including the pinstem and is .5" at its widest point. It weighs in at 5.5 grams.
This unusual carved Tiger Eye cameo bar pin displays beautifully and would be a great addition to a collection of fine antique jewelry. An elegant find!
