This antique figural Palais Royal etui casket has been made in the form of a man carrying a large porcelain egg shaped box on his back. The exterior of the egg has been finished in pink and bears colorful flowers and foliage, some of which have enamel accents. The decoration includes a beautifully patterned yellow and blue butterfly with enamel accents on its wings. The egg itself has a hinged lid that lifts to reveal a white interior. The base and lid are trimmed in gilt metal and the top sports a decorative gilt metal finial. There is an additional gilt metal floriate button inside the base covering a wire loop which attaches the base of the egg to the rack. The piece comes with its original rectangular white marble base.
The piece is in very good original condition with no repairs. The box's hinged lid is fully functional and closes securely on the base. As an antique the piece shows signs of age consisting of minor wear to the gilt trim which is mentioned for accuracy. The piece is just under 7" tall as measured to the top of the finial on the lid of the egg. The egg itself is 4.25" tall and 2.125" as measured across the opening of the bottom portion. The rectangular base measures 6" by 3" and is .25" thick. The piece weighs in at 1lb 7oz.
This highly collectible Palais Royal egg shaped porcelain etui displays beautifully and would be a wonderful addition to a collection of decorative boxes. A lovely and unusual antique find!
