This box of salesman's samples calendars is titled "Americana Gift Calendars" and was copyrighted by Gordon E. Nichols in 1968. The set exemplifies merchant signs from early America and was preparing for the US bi-centennial.
The boxed set insert reads:
Nostalgia and memorabilia are big these days....just as they have been for years, and will be for the next hundred years. The Americana series fits right in with this rage. Plaque gift calendars blend in with any décor and are retained year after year to build a fine wall grouping.
The insert goes on to give the salesperson ideas on how to find customers as well as how to approach the Americana theme with potential buyers.
The set includes 5 boards with calendar artwork:
G. Washington Inn
Fire - Gold Eagle
...and three boards with the artwork mounted on the front and gilded advertising text on the back.
White Horse Smithy 1772
The Apothecary - Pro bono publico 1769
The Light Draught Passenger Steamer Lafayette New Orleans
