This beautifully executed pallet knife painting measures 31 ¾” H x 35 ¾" W is signed by etching the paint when wet Don Hazen lower left. The piece is titled “Paesando”. The artist is Don Hazen who is known for pallet knife paintings. This piece does have the original
well known Wally Findlay Galleries trademark on the reverse. This beautiful painting depicts a lone female figure in multi color dress with hues of pink, blue, and purple with white high heel shoes walking away from the viewer. The heavy pallet knife work of the abstract background is accentuated by the use of vibrant colors of blue, yellow, orange, purple, pink, greens and umber to provide contrast. The painting is framed in a 2 ¼" Wally Findlay contemporary wood molding finished in red gold leaf with 1" French bevel liner covered in oyster linen. The painting and frame are in excellent restored condition. The painting has been cleaned, varnished and the frame re-leafed and backed with the original purchase receipt dated June 9, 1988.
The overall size of the painting is 38" H x 41 ½" W.
Don Hazen is an American Artist born in 1933 in Tennessee, he studied engineering before turning seriously to painting. He worked under muralist Dan Chapin Ralph Bagley of the Orlando Florida Institute of Art and portraitist Robert Anderson. Upon completion of his studies in the early 1960’s Mr. Hazen traveled through Europe, eventually finding his home in Spain. Where he decided to make his permanent home, he married and settled in Alicante.
Since he has now lived on the Mediterranean coast for 30 years, Don has absorbed into his psyche and brilliant sun and vibrant colors surrounding him. Bold, singing colors lay on thickly with the palette knife, envelops the semiabstract to abstract forms which Hazen employs on the canvases. Don’s painting are filled with contagious energy and vitality generated by the hot oranges, fuchsias, cobalt, beaten gold, scarlet and emeralds, which he uses, in a kaleidoscope of light and life. Don Hazen’s work has been exhibited widely in Spain and Mexico as well as the United States. He is represented in the permanent collection of the Museum of Science and Art of Daytona Beach, Florida and the Museum Casa de la Cultura, Guadalajara, Mexico.
