For sale here is an ORIGINAL vintage 1950s 60s impasto oil on board expressionist modernist painting of a still life featuring flowers in a vase on a table by midwestern American artist Gloria Lutie Smith (1928-2019). Smith was a prodigal artist having her first one woman show at the age of 13 during the Second World War in Omaha, Nebraska where she was born. She had a long and illustrious career, and her artworks can be found in the collections of the Whitney and the Smithsonian. She is published in Artists of World Renown, and one of her portraits hangs in the Governer's Mansion in Nebraska. This artwork is in the impasto expressionist style of the period and for which she is particularly well-known. The artwork is in a frame that was made by her husband Obed Smith, and still bears the bronze plaque at the bottom front of the frame stating that this is an "Original Oil by Gloria Lutie Smith". The outside edges of the frame measure 34-1/2" by 18-1/2" by 3" deep, and the painting itself measures 29-1/2" by 13-1/2". The painting is signed at front at front in the painting itself at bottom right. It also bears the original bronze plaque at front bottom as stated above. It is also marked at back on the intact back papers as shown, and also has the mark for her husband's unique frame that was made especially for this artwork. Excellent vintage condition with just fine light wear to the painting itself, though the frame does show some wear particularly in the bottom left corner as shown though this wear is barely noticeable when hung and really only if you are looking for it - please view the photos, read the description, and ask all questions prior to purchase. I am open to reasonable offers from serious buyers.
