For sale here is a lovely vintage 1960s 70s original decoupage acrylic painting on paper by American artist/etc Carmela Marchese of California. A fine original artwork framed and under glass, and featuring a depiction of a Chinese New Year's parade with a dragon dance and figures, and with decoupage of San Francisco Chinese newspaper clippings added. Here's a short bio of the artist that I found online:
Carmela Marchese Dietzel (1925 - 2017)
Born in Cleveland, Ohio - October 31, 1925, daughter of Vincent and Theresa Macaione. Carmela, a gifted singer, and an accomplished artist whose works (signed "Marchese") grace the walls of homes, offices and galleries from coast to coast, but mainly in the west. In addition to painting and singing, Carmela had many other interests. She was a gourmet cook who loved to entertain and kept a log for years showing the names of guests and the food she served. She was a licensed dealer in antiques, owned a collection of dolls, loved flowers, gardening, dogs, crossword puzzles, dancing, and reading. At age 18, she married a man many years her senior against her parent's wishes. That marriage ended in a divorce after 13 years. Her second marriage lasted 34 years when death claimed her spouse. On May 4th, 2001, Carmela age 75 and Karl age 83 were married. That was certainly the autumn of their lives. Carmela took much pleasure in the belief that an owner of one of her paintings could enjoy it for a lifetime and pass it on to heirs. That belief was proven to be correct when she recently attempted to buy back one of her early paintings from an estate. The family would not sell. In the last couple of years, owners of paintings acquired thirty and forty years ago contacted her to express thanks and appreciation for enriching their lives. That is a morale booster. Though her voice is still, brushes inactive, creativity curtailed, her paintings remain a beautiful, lasting testimonial and legacy.
This painting measures 25.5" by 27.5" by 1" deep at the outside edges of the frame. The image under the matting measures 15.75" by 15.75". Weighs about 15 pounds when packed, and the USPS priority mail estimate is $105 to which I will add $20 extra for packaging. If you prefer another shipper, please contact me for a quote. Signed "Marchese" at front as shown in my closeup photo. Excellent vintage condition with just fine light wear to the outside edges of the frame but no damage or loss to the painting itself as shown - please view the photos, read the description, and ask all questions prior to purchase. I am open to reasonable offers from serious buyers.
