For sale is a SUPERB vintage 1950s 60s handmade abstract modernist Op Art string and nails artwork in the original plexiglass box frame. Probably the best example of this type of art that was popular in the late 1950s to the mid to late 1960s! Four levels of string strung on nails above a bright red background. The uppermost and most visible is two layers of white string, then hot pink, then a vivid orange at bottom just over the bright red background. All of this is encased in the original plexiglass box frame with black material at back as shown. Heavy duty wire to hang on the wall. Really a great artwork, and a quality frame job. The frame measures 24.5" by 18.5" by 2.5" deep. There are no markings on this artwork that I can find anywhere, and I consider it likely it was originally sold in a gallery where it would have had a tag or other paperwork which has been lost over the years. This artwork was extremely hard to photograph due to the reflectivity of the plexiglass, and I have photographed it inside, and outside in sunlight. The outside photos have shadows present on the red fabric which of course aren't there when inside under regular lighting. My first photo shows the artwork most accurately inside, and there are no shadows or lines in the red fabric background for the string art. Overall great shape with some fine scratching in spots to the plexiglass, and there is a small about 1.5" long crack on the left side at bottom that doesn't really show at all when hung on the wall - please view the photos, read the description, and ask all questions prior to purchase. I am open to reasonable offers from serious buyers.
