For sale here is a SUPERB sculptural vintage 1980s 90s handmade ironwood with turquoise inlay modernist vase by American artist/sculptor Lawrence Favorite. Lawrence (Larry) came to Arizona about 45 years ago to work in the Phoenix area as a mechanical engineer, but had a life-changing epiphany where he changed the course of his life, quit his job, and started carving desert ironwood from the Sonoran desert in Arizona. He's lived in various parts of the country, but is now in North Carolina. His work is sold exclusively in art galleries, and he counts many famous people as his clients including former President Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton. This is a very large and quite extraordinary vase from the early days of his artistic career. From a local Tucson estate, and purchased by the original owner directly from the artist. Measures 15.25" tall by 5.5" widest by 4" deepest. Ironwood is one of the heaviest and densest woods in existence, and is quite hard to work, but isn't easily scratched or damaged. Weighs about 15 pounds prior to packing. Marked at bottom as shown with hand-engraved signature "L. Favorite" for Lawrence Favorite. Nice touch by the artist to inlay turquoise at the bottom of the vase where it can't be seen normally!
