I am So Delighted to be Able to Offer This Rare and Beautiful Crucifix / Reliquary .It is Obvious From The First Impression That it is a Very Holy Devotional Relic That Would Have Taken Many Many Hours to Construct. The Mother of Pearl Inlays Alone Are All Hand Made And Inlaid. It is Most Likely That This Object Was an Early Pilgrimage Souvenir Produced in Jerusalem by Syrian Craftsman Under The Direction of Franciscan Monks. The Materials Used For This Treasure Are Olive wood, Mother of Pearl And Bone. The Construction of This Crucifix Has Also Provided For The Additional Purpose of Relic Holder. The Hollow Triangular Form Base Has a Small Door at The Rear Specifically For The Purpose of Relics. On The Reverse Side of The Crucifix The Vertical And Horizontal Beams Have Sliding Mechanisms Again For The Purpose of Accommodating Relics. These Mechanisms Are Now Seized And I Have Not Forced Them to Open For Fear of Damaging The Crucifix. The Condition of The Crucifix is Compromised However it is Stable And Perfectly Fine For Worship. There Are Several Losses to The Pearl Inlay And The INRI Banner is Absent. There Are Several Small Circular Terminals That Decorate The Cross Are Now Missing. Two of The Circular Dowel Feet Are Replacements. There Are Traces of White Ant Holes in The Base However This is No Longer Active And is Long Since Gone. Over The Long Life of This Rare Example it is Not Unreasonable to Expect Some Condition Issues. This Being Said if You Do Not Like Imperfections, This Crucifix is Not For You. However if You Love The Story This Wonderful Old And Rare Example Tells Then I Guarantee You Will Love it!
The Dimensions of This Crucifix/Reliquary Are: 51 cm high x 16 cm wide x 10 cm deep.
I Would Date This Crucifix to Circa 1750.
