This Most Beautiful And Sacred Ecclesiastical Accoutrement is Steeped in History And is in Remarkably Good Condition Considering It Was Made Over 450 Years Ago. I am Always Amazed at The Subtle Beauty That Utilitarian Ecclesiastical Objects Offer. This Hand Wrought Brass Dish Originates From Nuremberg, Germany. The Central Boss Depicts a Swirling Petals Motif Which is Surrounded by a Repeating Boss of Rounded Petals. This in Turn is Surrounded by a Band of Script . The Cavetto Has Gentle Gadrooning. And The Broad Rim is Decorated With Repeating Punch-Work Patterns Terminating in a Rolled Edge. This Alms Dish is Extremely Well Made And Remains Fit For The Purpose it Was Intended. Naturally The Condition Exhibits Age And Use Associated Wear. The Dish is Not Perfectly Flat And Shows Signs of Warping Along The Rim. There Are a Couple of Minor Patches of Verdigris Which Are Not at All Disturbing And To Be Expected on Metalware of This Age. There Are No Restorations And The Dish is Solid.
I Would Date This Alms Dish To Circa 1550.
The Diameter of The Alms Dish is 40.3 cm
