This set of cast iron bookends is cast in the form of a Dutch girl, likely a milk maid, carrying pails with a shoulder yoke. The set was made by Art Colony Industries in the late 1920's. The pair has a faded, age worn, red, gold, green and blue painted finish on the front. There is a bit more color on one end including on the stepped base. The backs are painted reddish brown and dark gold. The pair is in good condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs to the iron.
