Large & Impressive Majolica Dragon jardiniere in cobalt blue by Thomas Forester & Sons dated circa 1890 in the Revivalist style. Thomas Forester & Sons were one of the largest English producers of majolica in the late 1800s.
The jardiniere is decorated with Gothic-style handles and architectural motifs related to the Renaissance style. The interior of this spectacular piece is decorated in turquoise blue glaze, and the exterior is in pink, light green, yellow and brown colours. The base is stamped 'Foresters' and signed in blue with the letter 'F'.
PERIOD: late 19th century
MEASUREMENTS: approx. 23 cm height, 26 cm width (top), 37 cm length (at widest part), 88 cm circumference
CONDITION: Chips to the bottom rim and to one of the dragons (please see attached images), light crazing throughout. Old repair work to the dragon's head.
