Continental School Oil on Canvas of a Nobleman with a Putto
In my opinion this looks like Vivaldi or Bach, with the sweet putto beside him who is inspiring his music composition.
This is an oil on canvas with some abrasions and general craquelure; it likely would brighten and the background would become more distinct with a cleaning.
The wooden strip frame is sturdy. I am sure this once was set inside a very elegant frame and while it is very impressive on an easel or stand, it will also look quite impressive if framed.
This is from the estate of Joseph Rondina who started Joseph F. Rondina Antiques Ltd. in 1957 on East 62nd St at Madison Avenue, in New York City's Upper East side. Mr. Rondina was featured in three issues of "Architectural Digest," and was named one of 5 most trusted Interior Designers with a "Golden Eye" by the New York Times as well.
