Antique Mary DeNeale Morgan Watercolor of California's Cypress Grove on Monterey Peninsula c.1920 (4.6lbs.) (H)17in. x (W)23in. x (D)1.25in. Mary DeNeale Morgan (1868-1948) was born in San Francisco, CA in (1868), and by adolescence was studying under the famed William Keith. While under his tutelage, Morgan developed her artistic skills and continued her studies at the Oakland School of Design; where she completed her education in (1895). In (1896) Morgan opened her own Art Studio in Oakland, CA; and began Teaching Art Classes at Oakland High School. Her first solo exhibition was in (1907). Shortly thereafter, Morgan purchased the Studio-Home of Sydney Yard in Carmel, CA. While in Carmel, Mary Morgan continued to study alternative artistic techniques & hone her skills by studying under William Chase in (1914). It was at this time, Morgan developed a deep appreciation for the Monterey Peninsula and became Director of the Carmel School of Art in (1917). She was instrumental in the founding of the Carmel Art Association in (1927), and during the Second World War, Morgan was known to visit, and sketch Servicemen stationed at nearby, Fort Ord. Mary DeNeale Morgan passed away in (1948), leaving behind a vast collection of artistic works; particularly works that are of the "en plein air" genre. Such is the case with this very work of Art. This Morgan Watercolor depicts California's Cypress Grove on the majestic Monterey Peninsula. Shop records indicate the Artwork was completed sometime around the year (1920).
