Henry Leopold Richter (1870-1960) was born in, Plumenau, Austria, in (1870). He immigrated to America in (1887), settling in Chicago, Illinois. By a young age, Richter was showing signs of artistic talent, and by (1904) was enrolled at the Chicago Institute of Art, where he studied under the tutelage of E.A. Burbank. Around this time, Richter began holding exhibitions, and his work was received quite favorably; so much so that he was offered a position teaching Art at Western State College, in Gunnison, Colorado. While at Western State College, Richter took a leave of absence to further his study at the Royal Academy of Art, in Munich, Germany. It was during this time, Richter Painted some of his most impressive works of (European) Landscapes; including this particular Watercolor. Here, Richter makes exceptional use of: color, space, and tone, to depict: The Dolomites. The Dolomite Mountains are located in the Italian province of Trentino-Alto Adige, in Tyrol, Italy. Richter Painted a majority of his (European) Landscapes prior to the First World War, thus placing this Watercolor's approximate date of completion at or around the year (1914). Although most of Richter's latter works centered around California Coastal Landscapes, his European Landscapes are deemed highly collectable and coveted works of Art. The condition of the Antique Artwork is noteworthy; fore despite its (100+) years of age, it has retained both its structural integrity; as well as its aesthetics.
