Antique French Napoleon III era figural table top display stand for cigars or cigarillos. A Palais Royal Grand Tour souvenir featuring a finely modeled figure of a camel surmounted with bronze framework. Upon the camel's back are two mother of half shells serving as baskets for small objects, or for example a cigar cutter and spent matches. Further mounted with a holder for a ring of cigars and matches. Resting on a weighted pedestal base. In good antique condition with general wear and signs of use, discoloration/patina to the metal commensurate with age. Stands 9 5/8" tall x 4" diameter at the base. The ring gauges on the cigar stand measure approximately 14-15mm diameter, of up to about a 38 gauge for cigars, ideal for cigarillos and panatelas. This charming cigar caddy would have been a novelty souvenir or memento acquired on one's Grand Tour travels of the mid to late 19th century. These early whimsical trinkets from Paris were found in boutiques of the famed Palais Royal of Paris, the promenade of the garden center of the Palais-Cardinal, once the personal residence of Cardinal Richelieu.
