Believed to be Ida May, a creatively posed woman engaged with traditional themes, this standard eight by ten inches photograph is in excellent vintage condition.
Maurice Eby was a professional photographer from Las Vegas, New Mexico. He was hired to take photos of Maria and Popovi to promote their studio at San Ildefonso Pueblo. Eby is also known for his postcards of Maria and Popovi. Eby’s wife Ida May is featured in an article in the Summer Issue 2014 of El Palacio, the official publication of the Museum of New Mexico was the creative behind the famed photographer.
Maurcena Eby Wells, an only daughter of Maurice and Ida May Eby, donated her parents’ jewelry to the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture after her mother’s death in 2004: “I remember her always wearing turquoise bracelets,” she says.
