It took us a long time to figure out what this is! It is a pineapple eye scoop, patented by Schlicker in 1910. It is 5 1/2" long and 2 1/2" across the handle. It does show significant signs of use, so please see the photos. It opens and closes easily. We have not done anything but lightly wash it.
I do not see a mark. The few other scoops that I have found online are marked in various places or not marked at all.
Removing the eyes one by one might seem like a tedious job, but I imagine that fresh pineapple was a rare delicacy in the early 1900's and people wanted to get every juicy bit. Fun for the gadget collector and an item to stump your friends!
