An early 19th century French Renaissance style cabinet with many small interior drawers. This large heavy cabinet is made of solid walnut and oak with pine as a secondary wood. The thick plank doors have Palladian style architectural columns, triangular pediments and framed marquetry inset panels. Similar to a vargueno, the interior has a small locking central reliquary cabinet with an inlaid marquetry bird on the door and is surrounded by 28 dovetailed drawers of various sizes, each with brass knobs. Original cast bronze hardware with large decorative hinges. The left door latches into the interior door and the right door has a massive lock and key. An extraordinary large safe, perfect for storing precious jewelry, documents and collectibles. Circa 1800-1820. 39.5"W x 20.5"D x 44.5"H
