A good quality 19th century English campaign, or lap desk. Made of elm wood with book matched veneer. These desks were made for sea captains and officers in the field, and known as campaign furniture. When the front drawer is opened, the tambour cylinder rolls back to reveal a hinged, felt covered writing slope. Interior has divided compartments, two with lids, for ink pots and stamps. Front drawer has lock, but no key. Circa 1850-1860. 16.5"W x 14"D x 9"H
