Beautiful Art Nouveau silver scent bottle is the amazing work of the Whiting Manufacturing Company.
The stunning design is typical of the fine work by Whiting, which began as Tifft & Whiting in North Attleboro, Mass. in 1844, and officially became the Whiting Manufacturing Company in 1866 (In 1924, Gorham purchased the company). The pattern comprises a wonderful "ray" like background with what appears to be a stylized oak tree leaf in the centre. The sides resemble leaves or feathers.
Bottle opens to the top by simply unscrewing the small silver lid. There are very small holes around the cap which releases tiny amounts of perfume when tapped.
The bottle is solid sterling silver, and stamped "STERLING." Perfect size for slipping into your purse!
Measures about 5" x 1&3/8" at its widest point. Weight is a good 50.7 grams.
Excellent antique condition, with very light wear. Bottle neck is stamped "1535" on the inside.
