This is a wonderful find for the collector of hard to find battlefield photographs of the Gettysburg Battlefield. This particular photo has the photographers name embossed in the lower left corner; M.F. WILLIAMS. Marian F. Williams was a resident of Gettysburg, and a National Park Photographer at the Gettysburg National Park for 40 years. He was also the photographer for the Carlisle Barracks, which is a short trip from Gettysburg. Williams passed away in 1929, and that helps us date this photo, in addition to looking at the clothing that is worn by the people in the photo, which is late Victorian or early Edwardian era. Etched into the photo during development is the location, which is at the High Watermark, posed at the monument and with cannons. In the background, you see trees and other monuments, as well as the iconic stone walls that are all around the park.

The photograph measures a bit over 9 inches by 7 inches and is mounted on its original cardboard matting, covered by glass in a wooden frame that is painted gold. I do think the backing was replaced at some point, as that paper is newer. It also has a wire for hanging. The frame measures 11 & 1/2 by 13 & 1/2 inches. The photos is in very good condition with no damage. There is some light water stains on the matting on the right edge and the bottom left side and bottom. The frame is in nice sturdy shape, with some color loss on the left edge to the gold paint, and no damage to the glass. There is some dirt between the photo and the glass and a flake of something near MF Williams, as you can see in the photos. This is likely worth having conserved by a professional, but the cardboard matting with the photographer's name on it should be preserved too, as this is a wonderful example of his work, and these are not easy top find any more.

Please see the photos as they show the condition and detail well and use the "Click to Expand" on the bottom of the pictures to see them fully. And please pardon any reflection on the glass in the photos of me taking the pictures for the listing.
