This 19th century Italian bronze-brass and copper centerpiece tazza is in very good condition with one small dent on the rim and minor scratches and oxidation in several places. The imperfections are commensurate with age and use and are well documented in the photos. The cast copper center is of a battle from the classical period and displays very remarkable detail and artistry. The cast copper slab is approximately one inch thick at its maximum depth The image is bas relief and likely first created in wax or plaster--molded and then cast. The design is particularly interesting as it appears to represent both male and female engaged together in battle. The design is centered with what appears to be a woman with her arms bound behind her. This is an unusual and finely crafted example of mid 19th century Italian artistry. Circa 1860. It is 9.125 in. diameter, by 3.375 in. high. Guaranteed to be as described.
