Known as an archelle, this wrought iron kitchen hook rack has rooster and volute scroll motifs. Archelles were hung on the walls of kitchens or service rooms, typically in Northern France and Flanders. The hooks would be used to hold utensils, cooking vessels, and other cooking-related items.

Our archelle has nine hooks affixed to the bottom of two horizontal pieces of iron, with seven of them having scrollwork beneath. Additional scrolled elements can be seen in between the two bars, as well as on the branches that extend from the upper bar. The outer offshoots are slightly askew, with all three topped by rooster finials.

A highly decorative piece with delicately scrolled iron and rivet construction, this 18th century wrought iron kitchen rack can still be used as intended on a kitchen wall or above a French buffet. It also makes an excellent holder for keys, belts, hats, etc.

CONDITION: Good antique condition with minor buildup. Light loss of paint leading to oxidation. Please see photos for details.
