We love to see a collection of French beadwork pictures displayed on a boudoir/bedroom wall. They are so accomplished yet so serene, conjuring images of simple pleasures in pastoral scenes. One simply cannot imagine having the patience to create such needlework works of art in today's modern age.

This stunning beadwork was produced in France during the 19th century, circa 1820. The beadwork depicts a young suitor on bended knee proposing to his fiancée, she is wearing a wonderful Empire waist pink dress, and she has her trusted pet dog by her side. Beside the young beau we see three sheep, two parents and a lamb...perhaps a prediction of a growing family!! This is a charming scene, we love the variety of colored glass beads they are still so wonderfully bright. The glass beads are very small allowing for a detailed image with approximately 484 beads per square inch. The beadwork is housed behind old glass in the most decorative unopened gilt frame; we love the detailing to the inner frame and the fact that it is complete with its original French blue backing paper. The frame really is fabulous, it really adds to the appeal of the beadwork.

The beadwork is one of a harlequin pair by the same artist (of differing size), each sold separately.

Measuring: Frame width 10.25 inch (26 cm) by height 9 inch (23 cm). Aperture 7 5/8 inch (19.5 cm) by height 6.25 inch (16 cm).

Condition: Excellent with just two very minor chips to gilt Gesso surface of the frame .
