Here's a lovely Swedish or Danish silver box from the mid 19th century, and perhaps earlier. It was a spice box or a vinaigrette for aromatic smelling salts. They are called Hovedvandsaeg in Scandinavia and were often given to a bride as an engagement present by the groom. Nowadays they are used as ring boxes. The box measures 2 1/2" tall by 1 3/8" wide at the widest point. The box has good weight and it's in very good condition. The crown finial and the lovely sensuous curving lines of the box add to its special appeal. The box is hinged in the back and the top closes with a nice snap.
Absolutely wonderful for a new bride, or as a love token for the bride you've loved for years.
