Here's a wonderful purse that's a true time capsule. This pretty evening bag was made around 1910. It has the owner's initials on it and the owners calling cards still inside. There's a compact with a small powder puff. There's a round mirror that is convex, and you can therefore see a lot more of yourself in it. There's a place for coins - nickels and dimes. Maybe a nickel for the phone and a dime for coffee or snack. There's a place for cards - a nice secure clip which could alternatively hold a dollar bill or two, or more.
The purse is made of nickel silver which is typically made using 60% copper, 20% nickel and 20% zinc. The condition is just wonderful. It's as if it were never used. The front has a subtle stripe pattern and the initials were beautifully engraved. This belonged to a Miss Hermine Foelske, as it shows on the calling cards, and her initials engraved on the front - "H.F."
This is such a pristine and lovely purse with a history to go with it.
