This is a scarce 18th c. Georgian period jasper ware medallion by Wedgwood of England depicting Hercules, bordered by exquisite pastes, set in (tested) sterling silver. Each stone is mounted in a cut down setting with no yellowing or noticeable wear. The stones are unusual shapes for jeweled buttons of this period, sort of rose cut ovals. The light blue-gray jasper is not the bright baby blue of the 19th century pieces; the delicate depiction of Hercules is more detailed than the scanner reflects--two figures can be seen on his shield, and a lion's head at his feet. It measures 1 & 1/4" and hangs in the scale, so is a large.
