This is a remarkable 18th century gentleman's coat button comprising an undersea world or diorama of natural marine specimens under glass in a gold-plated copper rim. Called a "habitat" button, this one is in exceptional condition with over 250 year old gifts from the sea in miniature, likely gathered from the tidal pools of Georgian England. They appear to have vivid natural coloration. I have not had one finer! It measures 1 & 7/16" large.
