This is a somewhat dark--as though painted at dusk--18th century scene of what looks like Venice (the tower looks like Santo Stefano before it's new top was added). The medium looks like oil paint--but it could be a heavy gouache I guess. The brush strokes are visible under a loupe, and the paint is quite opaque. Figures rest by a canal. The painting is, under glass, in very fine condition. The gold-plated copper rim has a dark spot where someone (idiot) tested it for gold. You can polish this away, but I wouldn't on fear it might leave a copper spot--still, the variation would be negligible to the eye. The back is gilded brass, it measures 1 & 3/8", and it is in very fine condition.
