This is a large 1 & 7/16" Georgian gentleman's button depicting Hercules and his girlfriend in ink on silk. I can't imagine how it was executed without the ink blurbing! I'm sure there's technique....perhaps a thin layer of wax on the fabric? This button appears is several books, including The Colorful World of Buttons and one of the early 1940s books. The copper rim is bright, as is the tinned steel back. There is an almost invisible shallow fracture on the back side of the glass at 3 o'clock. I didn't notice it until I scanned it. Otherwise, this mythology button is in very fine condition.
