I recently sold the button with the front fascade of the 18th century maison, Chateau du Raincy. This is the courtyard and stables. I'm sure the long buildings housed fine carriages and horses. There are numerous ancient engravings and paintings online showing the stages of the estate, built in the early 1600s. I thought one of the estate follies was a Swiss chalet; but a contemporary print revealed it as "the Russian village", close to the stables, circa 1754 and later. The button is thought to have been done by or copied from prints by Carmontelle. It measures 1 & 5/8" with a gold plated copper rim and steel back. It is in very fine condition.
