This stunning small covered casserole is in Poppy pattern. The covered casserole bowl measures 5" in diameter and 4" high with covered lid. In excellent condition with no damage, never used.
Boleslawiec stoneware originated as folk art in the early 1800s. It was crafted in the German Province of Silesia, now part of Poland. Inspired by the peacock feather, farmers were instrumental in creating a statement of strength and beauty in each piece of their tableware. Made today in a small Polish village by skilled artisans, each piece hand crafted and hand painted. Antique Boleslawiec stoneware is in museums, shops and private collections throughout Europe.
The bold patterns are artistically arranged to depict patterns that are distinctive to the Silesian region. Both beautiful and durable, each folk art piece is an original one of a kind, no two are exactly alike. Each piece will not chip or crack easily, an appealing combination of function and beauty.
This lovely Polish stoneware art pottery will make a beautiful addition to any table or as a thoughtful lovely gift. These were purchased in the late 80s to 90s and were never used except as display pieces. They are from a living Oregon estate.
