This piece is quite old, was used for many decades and has a wonderful rich patina to the bronze. It shows its age charmingly and displays beautifully. The lovely patina is rich and beautiful. On the front and back the leaves and center design have been done in a repousse technique. The sides and bottom are smooth.
The history of the Townsend Company begins with Robert Townsend, who was born near Brownsville, Washington County, PA, in April 1790. On January 1, 1916, after the completion of one hundred years of continuous business and several other name changes, the corporate name was changed to Townsend Company. They created various brass items for day life in the late 1800's. As a manufacturer, Townsend Company has rendered distinctive service to our Government and her Allies during the World War I. .
