This Chinese wooden box owes its curved shape to the porcelain insert inlaid in the lid. The porcelain insert is a fragment from an old Chinese porcelain baluster vase. The porcelain insert has a profusion of multi-colored flowers with the double happiness Chinese character interspersed among the flowers. The flowers include peonies, lotus, prunus, and chrysanthemums. The border around the porcelain insert is incised with a repeating geometric design. The interior of the box is lined with red velvet. The bottom of the box has beveled edges and the center portion is indented.
