Late 19th century oil portrait of a brown and white dog in a lovely landscape setting. Encased in glass with an oval mat, this piece is highly desirable, as he must have been someone's prized pet. The painting is on canvas which has been applied to board--not sure if it is on artist board or panel. The original frame is in very good antique condition and enhances the painting beautifully.
19th century dog portraits are getting hard to find and have risen in price quite substantially! I only buy quality pieces. This one is quite nice and reasonable.
Painting measures 16" wide by 11" high
Frame measures 24" wide by 19" high
Minor paint loss on dog's face--see photos 5,6,7. There is some foxing on the mat. Neither detract, in my opinion.
Some reflections on the glass when photographed.
