This early 1920's example is classic Pima in shape, design and execution. Measuring slightly over 12" height by 15" in width, this classic Pima olla dates back in style for over a thousand years. This example is finely worked with even areas of dark devil's claw in alternating bands punctuated by strong vertical passages and a checker board rim edged in finely spaced and perfectly intact devil's claw edging. The basket is missing some light colored stitches along the outer bands but this does not detract from the overall power of the piece because all the dark devil's claw patterns so finely worked are totally intact. This basket is what you want to punctuate your collection of early Arizona basketry.
