A very rare collected example of a Southern Cheyenne man's beaded pipe bag from the late 1870's. This remarkable and historic piece is a marvel of strength and simplicity in its design and construction. Featuring the four directional morning star and box design on one side and a similar star encased in a blue triangle on the other side. Made to be carried daily, the only bottom decoration is the green verdigris stained fringe with the edges of the bag beaded in red and green triangles. Some paint stains remain on the bag and there is one minor tear to the leather that doesn't effect the bags visual appeal or stability. It could be easily repaired. This is an important early piece collected at the conclusion of the Indian Wars on the Plains and would make a beautiful addition to any collection.
This is not a later reservation made pipe bag but an earlier example made for daily use.
