Hans Kleiss(1901-1973) was an Orientalist/Africanist painter, illustrator and caricaturist. He and his wife, Yvonne Kleiss-Herzig who was also an Orientalist painter, spent time in North Africa (Morocco and Algeria) in the early 1950s. Hans Kleiss is noted for his paintings of the people from these areas in North Africa.
Presented here for sale is an original watercolor painting of a Moroccan man in profile . The painting is signed in the lower right hand bottom corner of the painting. The painting is sealed with brown paper all around the edges and framed under glass. This Moroccan man may be a Berber. This painting is in very good condition with no water damage. When looking at the painting, there are some shadows on the glass that appear to be at the top of the painting. These shadows were from the glare and there are no marks on the top of the actual painting. There is some minor wear to the brown paper edging attached to the glass.
The actual size of this original painting by Kleiss is 6” H x 5” W.
The framed size is 8” H x 7” W
