What a treasure – items from this era – approximately 1890s to 1910 – and in this style, called Beaux-Arts or, sometimes, neo-Renaissance, are incredibly hard to find. This stunner is made of brass with a gilt wash. An elaborately engraved rolled gold round plaque sits at the center of the bracelet. The plaque has flowing Art Nouveau styled fronds, adorned with small sunbursts. The flanking sides of the bracelet show remarkable imagery: look closely and you’ll see that the scrolled sides are in fact frolicking fish or dolphins, with tightly coiled tails. This is an often found motif in decorative items from this era. Amazing! Two bezel set faux Jade art glass square cabochons complete the design. The external circumference is 8 inches; the interior measures 2 5/8 inches side to side and 2 inches front to back. This bracelet can accommodate a larger wrist – probably up to approximately 7 ½ inches in circumference. It is one and an eighth inch wide at the front, tapering to a quarter inch at the back. This beauty closes with a tongue in box clasp at the side and both the clasp and the opposite hinge work well. The overall condition is excellent – minor surface scratching on the rolled gold plaque is evident when viewed through a 10X loop. It weighs a substantial 37g. A truly special and quite unusual piece. $325.00
