Pair of Mid-Century Horse Head Bookends on Wood 1960’s - image 1 of 11

A pair of bookends with metal castings of horse heads that have been mounted on large soft wood stands. The bookends are large and will be useful for larger books. The metal has been given a silver colored patina. They show good detail with reins and fine lines in the horses mane. The bookends have worn green felts on the bases. I did not find any company hallmarks or labels.

6” (15.2 cm) wide x 6” (15.2 cm) deep x 7” (17.8 cm) tall. Weighs 3 lb 10.9 oz (1670 g)

There are no breaks, dents or repairs. A strip of the wood behind the horses heads on both bookends have a slightly lighter color and some residue. This is probably from adhesive tape. There is a crack on the wood base behind the horse head on one bookend. The crack appears to be from the wood drying out and doesn’t appear to go very deep. This bookend also rattles a little bit from something loose in the inside the horses head. The other bookend has a small nick at the top edge and a scuff mark on one corner. The backs of both bookends are lighter in color. The patina on the horses shows wear but is mostly intact.

A large pair of bookends to hold up larger books.
