Pair of Pompeian Polychrome Bronze Robinson Crusoe Bookends Circa 1915 - image 1 of 10

A pair of heavy and ambitiously detailed bronze-clad bookends showing an umbrella-toting Crusoe with his trusty companions.

Robinson Crusoe carries a musket and umbrella and is surrounded by a goat, parrot, and palm trees. The bookends shine with a golden bronze finish and brilliant polychromes.

The bookends have old charcoal colored felts on the bases. A stamped mark on the back of each bookend reads “POMPEIAN BRONZE” with a copyright symbol in a circle. There are also red and gold foil labels on the bottom of each bookend that read, “MADE BY MASTER CRAFTSMEN POMPEIAN BRONZE”

4 3/4” (12.`1 cm) wide x 2 ½” (6.4 cm) deep x 6 ¼” (15.9 cm) tall. Weighs 3 lbs 1.4 oz (1400 g)

There are no breaks, cracks, chips, dents or repairs. There is wear to the blue and red enamels, although the colors are still mostly visible. There is some oxidization to the gold finish from age and use. The felts show light to moderate wear. The felts on both bookends have bit of gold finish sticking to them.

A very unique sculptural pair of bookends to use or add to your collection.
